HEARTS Case Study
I have one regular client who is more than willing to be a “guinea pig” when I have learnt a new technique. She is amazing and I thank her most sincerely. After I had learnt the Hearts massage technique she agreed to let me try this out on her. Although the word “massage” is used, it’s not a massage per say. It might be more accurate to describe the technique as “body work”. The client can be in any position, this technqiue was designed by Ann Carter where conventional massage techniques were inappropriate, and in any situation where well intentioned touch could be beneficial. It can be given through clothes and bed covers so there is no need for patients to remove clothing. So my client was laid on my therapy couch and I found a wonderful fleece throw, they sell them in Ikea for around £1.50 or so – amazingly good value and have a fantastic effect with this technique. I had already burned some Frankincense incense in the room prior to her arrival and cleansed the room with reiki. I put on some nice relaxing music. I applied the technique for about 15 mins before going straight into the reiki, however, I was flowing reiki the whole time. The feedback was amazing, my client said she wasn’t sure whether she nodded off or not, which is great as she’d reached that state of deep relaxation. Hearts rather reminds me of stroking a pet, running your hands along their soft fur and velvetly ears. The pressure can be variable depending on the client – some people may find light pressure just “tickly”. It can also be used in day to day situations, a comforting touch, or stroking of the arm, I’ve found these very helpful.
